Voyage of the Plainswoman

By Andrew Schmidt

She left her home in North Dakota
To seek a new adventure
She packed her bags and hit the road
With nothing but her courage

She drove through the prairie land
And crossed the great red river
She reached the land of ten thousand lakes
But felt a sudden shiver

She found a place to call her own
A cozy city dwelling
She made some friends and found a job
And soon it felt like living

But something was still missing
A piece of her heart was gone
She longed for someone to share her life
And sing to her a love song

Then one day she met a boy
Who made her smile and laugh
He had a kind and gentle soul
And eyes like sparkling glass

He showed her all the beauty
Of Minnesota and the North
He took her to the waterfall
And filled her heart with mirth

He made her feel so special
And so alive and free
He kissed her at the lake of love
And asked her then to marry

She said yes without a doubt
And hugged him with delight
She knew she found her true love
And everything was right
